Councillor Jonathan Noble has been voted in as the 491st The Worshipful The Mayor of Boston at the Mayor-Making Ceremony held on Monday night.

Cllr Noble has served as a Boston Borough councillor for a total of nine years, first serving from May 2015 until May 2023 before returning in May of last year.

He has previously held the position of Portfolio Holder for Finance and brings a wealth of experience in public service and education to the role. He has lived in the Boston area since 1979 and remains deeply connected to the local community.

The new Mayor said: “It is a tremendous privilege and honour to become the Mayor of Boston. The town has a glorious history and I’m sure will have a prosperous future.”

Cllr Noble, who holds a degree in Politics, has been a teacher for more than four decades having spent 27 years teaching history, including serving as head of history at three different Lincolnshire secondary schools. Since 2006, he has also taught music, specialising in guitar and bass, and continues to inspire young people through his passion for education.

Beyond the classroom, the Mayor is an accomplished writer having scripted numerous historical plays, primarily for the Lincolnshire Regency Society, for which he serves as Chairman.

The society performs in period costume, celebrating history through character performances and traditional country dancing. He also enjoys writing pop songs and has a keen interest in music, particularly blues and rock artists.

Leeds-born Cllr Noble’s father came from Ireland and served as a boy soldier in the First World War. His mother, who was English, was also a school teacher.

The Mayor and his family have been part of the Boston community for many years. He has two grown-up daughters who both live and work locally.

As Mayor, Cllr Noble has expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to work closely with local residents, organisations and young people across the borough, supporting the town’s growth while celebrating its rich heritage.

The Mayoress for the civic year is former Borough Councillor Yvonne Stevens. The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr James Cantwell and Deputy Mayoress is Deborah Sands.
