Thousands of spectators lined the streets across Lincolnshire yesterday as some of the world’s top professional cyclists raced from Boston to Skegness for Stage Two of the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Men.
The stage got underway in the heart of Boston Market Place on Thursday morning, with crowds gathering to see the riders, teams and support vehicles before the peloton rolled out of the town.
From Boston, riders embarked on the approximately 180km route towards the Lincolnshire coast, passing through Coningsby, Woodhall Spa, Horncastle and Wragby before heading into the Lincolnshire Wolds and through Louth.
The race then headed towards Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea before continuing through Alford, Spilsby and Wainfleet, eventually reaching the finish on Skegness seafront.
Spectators turned out at locations across the route, giving Lincolnshire a fantastic opportunity to showcase its towns, villages, countryside, Wolds and coastline as the prestigious race passed through the county.
Jonathan Day, Director of Events at British Cycling Ventures, said: “It has been brilliant to bring the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men to Lincolnshire, and we’ve had a great day of racing in Boston and Skegness at stage two. Taking the Tour to Boston for the first time has been special, and it was fantastic to see the people of the town out in force to watch the riders take to the roads on Thursday morning.
“On behalf of British Cycling Ventures, I would like to pay thanks to our partners who have enabled us to bring world class racing to their communities, spreading the joy of cycling along the route, and inspiring more people to get on a bike and live healthier lives.”
The leader of Boston Borough Council, Councillor Dale Broughton, and the leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Craig Leyland, have sent out a thank-you message to their respective communities for the part they played in making Stage Two of the Lloyds Tour of Britain such a resounding success.
Councillor Broughton said: “Boston showed itself at its very finest. A top quality welcome from the people of Boston for a top quality sporting event. We have demonstrated that we can host such a brilliant spectacle and I’d like to thank everyone who was involved for their participation and commitment in making this such a great success.”
Councillor Leyland said: “To see so many people, in so many of our communities, embracing the Tour was absolutely fantastic to see. East Lindsey really showed the pride that our residents have in our district. There were so many positives that we can take from this and we look forward to seizing further opportunities in the future.”
