The sights and sounds of one of the town’s most cherished traditions returned this weekend, as the Boston May Fair was officially opened by the Mayor of Boston, Councillor Barrie Pierpoint.
The historic annual proclamation ceremony took place on Saturday morning (2 May) atop the Gallopers in Boston Market Place, marking the formal start of the fair and continuing a long-standing tradition that dates back generations.
A spokesperson for Boston Borough Council said: “Today (Saturday 2 May) is the day! The #BostonMayFair is officially open, bringing colour, excitement and family fun back to the town centre.
“Official opening took place from 12 noon today, led by The Worshipful The Mayor of Boston, Cllr Barrie Pierpoint.
“A big congratulations to our Golden Ticket raffle winner, Nelle Batey!”
The opening of the 901st May Fair in Boston took place with the traditional service of thanksgiving and blessing.
Rector of Boston, Fr David Stephenson, joined civic leaders to conduct the short service. Fr David was delighted to welcome people for this historic event, especially the Showmen’s Guild, before leading prayers asking for safety and enjoyment for all who work on the Fair and all who will visit in the coming week.
The fair is now open daily in Boston Market Place until Saturday 9 May, offering a wide range of rides, attractions, food stalls and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Regarded as one of the UK’s most iconic street fairs, the Boston May Fair continues to draw crowds from across the region each year, bringing a vibrant boost to the town centre and celebrating Boston’s rich history.
