Boston’s much-loved community radio station, 107 Endeavour FM, has officially secured a five-year FM licence extension, allowing it to continue broadcasting through to 2031.
The renewal, granted by Ofcom following a detailed application process, ensures the station will remain a key voice in the borough for years to come.
The announcement marks the latest milestone in a journey that began nearly two decades ago.
Endeavour FM’s story dates back to July 2006, when Tulip Radio and Blackfriars Arts Centre launched ‘Stump Radio’, Boston’s first community radio station, operating under a short-term 28-day licence. The concept proved popular, returning again in 2007 and 2008, before evolving into ‘Endeavour FM’ later that year.
With no immediate path to full-time FM broadcasting, the team adapted, launching ‘Endeavour Online’ in March 2009. The move not only kept the station alive but helped nurture new talent, including students from Boston Grammar School, some of whom have gone on to careers in radio.
The station quickly became embedded in the community, supporting local events and eventually organising its own. Its role became especially vital during the devastating Boston floods of 2013, when volunteers stayed on air to warn residents of rising levels, until floodwater reached the station itself.
That same year, the team organised ‘Flood Aid’, a major fundraising event for flood victims and one of the biggest musical events the town had seen in years. They were also invited to apply for a full-time licence, which was awarded by Ofcom later that year.
Momentum continued to build, with large-scale events such as ‘The Big Boston Gig’ in 2015 celebrating both touring artists and local talent, before a landmark moment arrived on 22 August 2016, when the station officially launched as a full-time FM broadcaster under the name 107 Endeavour FM.
Today, the station’s presence extends far beyond the airwaves. Its volunteers are a familiar sight across the borough, supporting and attending major events including the town’s annual Christmas Festival and the annual launch of the Boston Running Festival, reinforcing its reputation as a true community hub.
Speaking following the licence renewal, a station spokesperson said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for everyone connected with Endeavour FM and for the community we are proud to serve. Securing our licence through to 2031 gives us the stability to continue growing, developing new talent, and investing in the future of local broadcasting here in Boston.
“From our earliest days as a short-term station to becoming a full-time FM broadcaster, our journey has always been driven by the passion and dedication of our volunteers. We are incredibly proud to provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in radio, learn new skills, and have their voices heard.
“We’re also hugely grateful to our listeners, supporters, and local organisations who continue to back what we do. Whether tuning in daily, supporting our events, or working alongside us in the community, you are the reason we’re still here today.
“As we look ahead to the next five years, we’re excited to build on everything we’ve achieved, bringing even more local news, great music, live coverage, and community engagement to the borough. Endeavour FM has always been about Boston, and that will never change.”
With its future now secured until 2031, Endeavour FM looks set to continue delivering local news, music, and opportunities for the community, remaining at the heart of Boston life for many years to come.
