Boston Town were trophy winners for the second weekend in a row after beating Nuneaton Town 2-0.
Seven days after clinching a historic first league title in 25 years, they found themselves lifting more silverware.
This time it was the United Counties League Premier Champions Cup, awarded following a showpiece game between the winners of the league’s north and south divisions.
Nuneaton Town had home advantage by virtue of their better record this season, so the Poachers had to make the long trip to Bedworth.
Chris Funnell made several changes to the starting XI that had beaten Hucknall Town 6-0 the previous Saturday. Ted Gibbons, Pierce Hudson, Leo Priestley, Shaun Archer and Fraser Bayliss came in, with Finley Ging, Kallum Smith, Jordan Nuttell and Bruno Andrade all missing.
But any fears that this might be a case of “after the lord mayor’s show” were dispelled when Matt Cotton’s header put the visitors 1-0 up 19 minutes.
That was his 34th goal of the season and confirmed his position as the United Counties League Premier North’s leading goalscorer for 2025-26.
Bayliss doubled the lead after 75 minutes and Boston Town recorded a 10th successive win to complete their campaign – with eight clean sheets to boot.
Skipper Richard Ford was presented with the trophy after the game and now the Poachers can take a well-earned rest over the summer as they wait to hear which Step 4 league they’ll be placed in for 2026-27.
