Motorists across Lincolnshire are being warned to expect delays tomorrow as a huge abnormal load makes its way across the county under police escort.
Lincolnshire Police have confirmed they will be assisting with the movement of a 182-tonne transformer, which is set to travel from Goole to the Bicker Fen National Grid Substation.
The convoy will exit the M18, before joining the A1, and then travelling onto the A17, where it will remain for approximately 30 miles. The load will then leave the A17 at Bicker Bar roundabout, continuing along Donington Road towards its final destination.
Due to the size and weight of the transformer, the vehicle will travel at speeds of between 35 and 45mph, with its journey scheduled to begin from around 9am. Police have warned that this is likely to result in delays for other road users, particularly along the A17 corridor.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We will be assisting the load from Goole and taking it to Bicker Fen National Grid Substation.
“The abnormal load will be travelling somewhere between 35-45mph from 9am and could cause some disruption.
“We are unable to move it during the hours of darkness as most of the roads in Lincolnshire are not fully lit and for the overall safety of our road users, the abnormal load crew and our officers, we move abnormal loads when it is safe to do so.
“We know it can be frustrating being delayed on the road and we thank you for your patience.”
Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and consider alternative routes where possible while the convoy passes through the area.
