A huge 182-tonne transformer has successfully completed its journey across Lincolnshire, arriving safely at National Grid’s Bicker Fen Substation following a carefully coordinated transport operation.

The abnormal load travelled from Goole, making its way onto the A1 before joining the A17 and continuing through to Bicker Bar, where it then proceeded along Donington Road to its final destination.

The move was carried out by Collett & Sons Ltd, specialists in heavy haulage, with support from Lincolnshire Police who escorted the convoy to ensure the safety of other road users throughout the journey.

Due to the transformer’s size and weight, the convoy travelled at reduced speeds of between 35 and 45mph, resulting in delays along parts of the route earlier in the day, particularly on the busy A17 corridor.

Supporting the operation was East Coast Infrastructure Services (ECIS), a local renewables company based in Metheringham. The firm provides specialist civil engineering works for the delivery and installation of transformers, playing a key role in supporting critical energy infrastructure.

ECIS has contributed to a number of renewable energy projects across the region, helping to bring investment and business into Lincolnshire while supporting the transition to more sustainable energy systems.

Despite the logistical challenges involved in transporting such a large piece of equipment, the operation was completed without incident, highlighting the level of planning and coordination required for movements of this scale.

Motorists who experienced delays during the day have been thanked for their patience, with safety remaining the top priority throughout the operation.
