A 33-year-old man from Boston has appeared in court charged with a series of serious offences involving a teenage girl.

Jay Savage, of Marsh Lane, appeared before Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 19 March, where he faced four charges. These include rape, taking an indecent photograph of a child, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and taking a child under the age of 16 in order to remove them from lawful control.

The alleged offences are reported to have taken place in Boston on Monday, 16 March.

The case has been sent to Lincoln Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled to take place on 16 April. Savage has been remanded in custody until that hearing.

Local response officers were immediately dispatched along with armed response officers who located and arrested a 33-year-old man at The Lord Grey Hotel, Marsh Lane, Boston at 1.45am, where he was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.

Following the initial arrest last week, Detective Inspector Claire Rimmer, of Boston’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, who is leading the case, said: “This is an investigation into an alleged rape in the Boston area by somebody unknown to the victim. Incidents of this nature, while understandably alarming, are extremely rare in the county of Lincolnshire. However, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of numerous teams a suspect was identified and apprehended within two hours of the initial report.

“We recognise the concern this incident may cause within our community, and we want to update that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter at this time.

“This investigation remains active, and we strongly urge the public to avoid speculation on social media and within group messaging apps to maintain the integrity of the judicial process.”
