Whitbread Group has confirmed that its Burton House restaurant on Wainfleet Road, Boston, will close its doors on Monday 7 September, as part of a major nationwide restructuring of its restaurant business.

The closure follows Whitbread’s previously announced decision to withdraw from its standalone Brewers Fayre and Beefeater restaurant brands, with the company instead focusing its future on its Premier Inn hotel business.

Across the UK and Ireland, Whitbread is closing around 197 standalone Brewers Fayre and Beefeater restaurants. Some sites are being converted into additional Premier Inn hotel rooms, while others are being marketed for sale as going concerns. Several locations have already closed permanently.

The company says the strategic shift will see food and beverage operations increasingly integrated into Premier Inn hotels, with facilities aimed primarily at hotel guests rather than operating as standalone restaurants.

Burton House, which has served customers in Boston for many years, has also been placed on the market. The property is currently being advertised by hospitality property specialists Christie & Co with an asking price of £900,000 plus VAT.

The sale listing describes the site as an established hospitality venue, offering potential opportunities for new owners or alternative uses, subject to any necessary permissions.

While Whitbread is exiting the high street restaurant market through the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre brands, many locations that are attached to Premier Inn hotels are expected to continue trading in some form during the wider transition.

The closure of Burton House marks the end of an era for one of Boston’s best-known family dining venues, with its final day of trading now confirmed as 7 September.
