Plans for a new Aldi food store on land at Wainfleet Road, Boston have moved a step closer following an extensive public consultation which demonstrated overwhelming support from the local community.
The proposals, which are being brought forward in partnership with Lindum Group, would deliver a new Aldi food store as part of the wider redevelopment of a vacant site, alongside a drive thru restaurant, petrol filling station, landscaping, new access arrangements and associated works.
The proposed development represents an investment of approximately £7 million into Boston and would create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs, all paid at Aldi’s industry-leading rate of pay.
During the consultation, which ran between 29 April and 10 May 2026, a total of 932 responses were received through the consultation website, paper feedback forms and email.
The consultation demonstrated exceptionally strong support for the proposals:
- 96.7% of respondents supported the proposals in principle.*
- 96.5% believed a new Aldi store would benefit the local area.*
- More than 800 respondents said they hoped the Council would approve the plans.*

“The planning application has now been submitted and we look forward to continuing to work with Boston Borough Council as it considers the proposals.”

The consultation highlighted significant support for improved access to affordable food shopping, with many respondents recognising the benefits of providing a supermarket on the eastern side of Boston. Respondents also welcomed the investment, the creation of new jobs and the potential to reduce the need for residents to travel across the town for their weekly grocery shopping.
The submitted proposals include:
- A new Aldi food store representing an investment of approximately £7 million.
- Creation of up to 40 new full and part-time jobs, together with additional employment during construction and through the supply chain.
- Over 100 car parking spaces, including accessible bays, parent and child spaces and electric vehicle charging facilities.
- New landscaping and tree planting to enhance the appearance of the site.
- Safe vehicle, pedestrian and cycle access arrangements.
- A highly sustainable location, helping to reduce journey times for local residents accessing affordable food shopping.
The proposals would redevelop a long-vacant site on Wainfleet Road, delivering significant investment into Boston while improving access to Aldi’s award-winning range of affordable groceries for existing and future residents.
The planning application has now been submitted to Boston Borough Council and will be considered in due course. Residents wishing to comment on the proposals can do so via the Council’s planning portal with planning reference: B/26/0250.
