Passengers travelling by train through Boston are facing significant disruption this afternoon following a fault with the signalling system between Sibsey and Boston.

The issue is affecting East Midlands Railway services operating on the Skegness, Grantham and Nottingham route, with trains currently being delayed by between 30 and 35 minutes in both directions.

According to East Midlands Railway, Network Rail engineers have attended the fault and attempted repairs, however efforts to rectify the issue have so far been unsuccessful.

As a result, trains travelling through the affected area are being required to operate at a reduced speed, leading to ongoing delays across the route.

In a statement, East Midlands Railway said: “There is a fault with the train signalling system between Sibsey and Boston. This is disrupting East Midlands Railway services on the Skegness/Grantham/Nottingham route.

“Network Rail has tried to fix the problem, but they have been unsuccessful. Delays will continue in the affected area, as services will need to travel at a reduced speed.

“We are waiting for an update from Network Rail.”

At the time of publication, there is no estimated time for the fault to be repaired and for services to return to normal.

Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and check the latest travel information before setting off.
