A huge crowd descended on Marsh Lane on Saturday as more than 400 people attended the official launch of Boston’s newest fitness destination, Elev8 Fitness, in what proved to be a landmark day for the town.

The highly anticipated opening saw visitors of all ages come through the doors across the day to experience the impressive new facility, meet founders Vaughan Dent and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Callum ‘The One’ Johnson, and enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere blessed by glorious sunshine.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at 3pm and was led by renowned boxing personality ‘Big’ Joe Egan, former sparring partner of Mike Tyson, who drew huge interest throughout the day as fans queued for photographs, conversations and the opportunity to meet the larger-than-life figure in person.

Guests were given full access to explore the state-of-the-art gym, watch live demonstrations, test the facilities and experience first-hand what is being described as one of the most advanced fitness centres in the region.

The launch marks the realisation of a vision more than a decade in the making for well-known local entrepreneur Vaughan Dent, who has spearheaded the project alongside professional boxer Callum Johnson.

Developed in partnership with Poyntons Consultancy, the former Marsh Lane industrial premises has been completely transformed into a cutting-edge multi-disciplinary fitness facility designed to cater for everyone from first-time gym users through to elite athletes.

Featuring elite-level Hammer Strength equipment, premium Life Fitness and Concept2 machines, specialist boxing and combat areas, functional training zones, class spaces, commercial-grade climate control systems, advanced air purification, integrated access control, full CCTV coverage and a bespoke audio-visual fit-out, Elev8 Fitness represents a significant investment into health, wellbeing and sport within the town.

Behind the scenes, the project has been very much a family-led effort, with Vaughan supported throughout by his parents Renita and Vaughan Snr, sister Sammi-Jo and the wider family network, who have all played a hands-on role in bringing the ambitious vision to life.

Speaking exclusively to Boston VIBE following the hugely successful opening event, co-founder Vaughan Dent said: “I honestly don’t think the day could have gone any better. The turnout completely blew us away and hearing the feedback from people walking around the gym made every single sleepless night worth it.

This project has taken an unbelievable amount of work behind the scenes. There have been months of early mornings, late nights and proper hard graft from all of us as a family, but standing there seeing hundreds of people enjoying the facility was a really proud moment.

We wanted to create something special for Boston, something the town could genuinely be proud of, and I feel like Saturday showed we’ve achieved that.

Having Big Joe here to officially open the gym made it even more memorable and we can’t thank everyone enough for the support they’ve shown us.”

Co-founder Callum Johnson added: “What a day. To see so many people come out and support us was incredible. The atmosphere from start to finish was brilliant and it really showed just how much positivity there is around this project.

This has always been about creating something for the community, somewhere people can improve themselves, stay disciplined and be part of something positive, regardless of age or ability.

Seeing families, young people, experienced gym-goers and complete beginners all enjoying the space together was exactly what we hoped for. This is just the start.”

One of the long-term ambitions behind the project is the creation of Acorn Boxing Club, backed by Acorn Taxis, which aims to help nurture local boxing talent and provide opportunities for future generations within the sport.

The opening event also featured support from a number of local businesses and partners, helping create a lively festival-style atmosphere throughout the day, with food and refreshments provided by popular local favourites including Sushi Crush and The Dog & Jacket.

Jack Fairman, of Poyntons Consultancy, said the opening represented a hugely positive moment for the town. “To see the finished result and the response from the public has been fantastic. What Vaughan, Callum and their families have achieved here is genuinely remarkable.

The transformation of the Marsh Lane site has been incredible and Elev8 Fitness is going to have a hugely positive impact on the area, not just through fitness and sport, but through the sense of community it creates.

Saturday’s turnout showed exactly how much excitement there is surrounding the project and we’re proud to have played a part in helping bring it to life.”

With an exceptional turnout, overwhelmingly positive feedback and a packed opening day programme, Elev8 Fitness has officially arrived, and judging by Saturday’s scenes, it is already shaping up to become one of Boston’s standout community success stories.
