Asda Boston is set to host its annual food drive later this month, working in partnership with Trussell, one of the UK’s leading charities dedicated to tackling poverty and hunger.

The two‑day event will take place on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May at the Lister Way store, where customers will be encouraged to donate food and essential toiletries to support local people during the summer months. Volunteers from Boston Foodbank will be in store on both days to speak with shoppers about their work and to collect donations.
Boston Foodbank forms part of the nationwide Trussell network and is led locally by the Parish of Boston. The food drive aims to boost donations at a time when demand for emergency food remains high, but contributions often fall, particularly during school holidays.

Throughout the weekend, shoppers who are able to will be invited to add an extra item or two to their baskets when doing their regular shop. Donations of long‑life foods and everyday toiletries can make a significant difference to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship in the community.

Stephen Bromby, community champion at Asda Boston, highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying the store is proud to support the food drive and to play an ongoing role in helping those experiencing food insecurity.

“This year, we’re inviting customers and colleagues to come together to support people in our communities who are facing hunger. Every donation – big or small – helps make a real difference, and we’re incredibly grateful for the compassion and generosity shown year after year. Support through events like this food drive, along with the permanent customer collection trolley behind our checkouts, which has been in place since 2018, helps ensure local individuals and families can access the essentials they need.”

Trussell is an anti‑poverty charity and a community of 1,671 food banks operating across the UK. Established in 2000, the organisation works to ensure that no one needs a food bank to survive, while also providing three days’ emergency food and practical support to people who have been left without enough money to live on.

The scale of demand continues to underline the importance of initiatives like Asda’s food drive. Last year, more than 1.9 million meals were donated to Trussell food banks through Asda collection points across the country. In 2025 alone, food banks within the Trussell community delivered more than 2.6 million food parcels to people in need across the UK.

Asda Boston’s general store manager, Sam Johnson, said the store is delighted to play its part in supporting vital local services.

“We know the ever‑important role food banks play in local communities, particularly as many people struggle to afford the basic essentials we all need to live. While we collect donations all year round, we’re hoping this two‑day food drive will lead to a significant increase in much‑needed contributions. I am always extremely proud of the generosity shown by our customers and grateful for the support they offer to people in our community who need it most.”

The food drive is expected to once again highlight the strength of community spirit in Boston and the difference that small acts of generosity can make when people work together.
Asda Boston is also encouraging local not‑for‑profit groups and charities interested in holding an awareness or fundraising event in its foyer to get in touch. Organisations wishing to use the store’s space should contact community champion Stephen Bromby via email at community_boston@asda.uk.
