A coordinated, multi-agency initiative has delivered solid results against shop theft this week in Boston. The multi-agency enforcements led to multiple arrests and charges for repeat shop theft offenders, swift action on a CBO breach, interception of four thefts through proactive patrols, and evidence collection for ongoing investigations.
Boston’s latest ‘Operation Continents’ which targets retail crime has delivered a consistent and clear message to prolific offenders: shop theft and associated crime will not be tolerated. With Boston historically recording the highest rate of shop theft in the county, this initiative marks another major step forward in reducing offences and restoring confidence among local businesses and residents.
The operation across the town earlier this week (Monday 17 November) was more than just shop-theft prevention.
Shop theft is not a victimless crime. It impacts businesses, staff, and the wider community, and is often linked to drug misuse, burglary, and anti-social behaviour. Tackling these offenders – and providing support, advice, referrals, and where necessary custodial sentence – prevents further harm and fosters a sense of justice for victims.
This success was made possible by a strategic and united effort from partners including Boston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, Probation, Lincolnshire Recovery Partnership, Pescod Security, Kingdom Security Group, LIDL, ALDI, ASDA security teams, Boston Borough Council ASB Community Safety Officers, and CCTV operators.
Results from the day included:
- Lauren Kemp, 37, of Trinity Street, Boston was charged with two counts of shop theft.
- Danielle Nuttall, 40 of Maud Street, Boston was charged with three counts of shop theft
- A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of shop theft and theft from a garage, and has been bailed for further enquiries to be undertaken.
- David Titley, 44, of Lincoln Lane was charged for breach of his Community Behaviour Order (CBO). He was remanded to appear at court on 18 November, where he received a fine of £80.
- Anna Hoyes, 41 of Craythorne Lane, Boston was charged with two counts of shop theft, due to appear in at court at a later date.
The officer who established and now drives regular Op Continents initiatives, Community Beat Manager, PC Pratt said: “These operations show what can be achieved when we work together. By tackling shop theft head-on, we’re not only reducing crime but also preventing the ripple effect of associated offences. Our approach delivers justice for victims, offers support to those experiencing personal challenges, builds confidence in the community, and sends a clear message that Boston will not tolerate criminal behaviour. Thanks to the dedication of all partners involved, we’re creating a safer, stronger town for everyone.”
This operation also complimented this week’s Safer Business Action Week, which is a valuable opportunity focusing on the challenges businesses face every day to highlight the work happening across Lincolnshire to tackle key concerns from businesses including shop theft, anti-social behaviour, alongside the growing threat of cybercrime.
