Boston United slipped to a home defeat on Saturday afternoon – despite leading through Zak Mills’ stunning early strike.

Mills’ eighth minute strike handed the Pilgrims a lead against Maidenhead United, but Shawn McCoulsky equalised 11 minutes later.

Reece Smith scored the winner for the visitors with 20 minutes to play.

Dan Mooney had been preferred to Pemi Aderoju ahead of kick-off, and the Pilgrims made a bright start on home turf. They were ahead in the eighth minute when Mooney and Jacob Hazel linked up to free MILLS, who composed himself before calmly firing the ball over the despairing dive of Craig Ross.

The lead was relatively short-lived though, with Jayden Mitchell-Lawson delivering from the right flank and McCOULSKY hooking home a 12-yard effort beyond Aidan Stone and into the far corner of the net.

Chances were at a premium thereafter and Stone had to make quickfire saves after the break. He denied Smith at his near post before producing a fantastic save to tip Mitchell-Lawson’s drive on to the crossbar.

United’s respite did not last much longer though, with SMITH picking his spot from 20 yards to drive home the winning goal.

There was a late drive across goal and wide from substitute Adam Marriott, but United were unable to find a way back into proceedings.
