Two vehicles have been seized and three motorists reported for driving offences as police stepped up patrols targeting anti-social driving in Boston’s Market Place.

Lincolnshire Police officers took action following a number of reports from residents about nuisance driving in and around the town centre.

PCs Winyard and Gaiger carried out targeted patrols on Tuesday evening, 29 September, after concerns were raised about loud revving, popping and banging exhausts, excessive acceleration and other anti-social vehicle use.

In just 45 minutes, officers issued three Traffic Offence Reports for driving without due care and attention, as well as two Section 59 notices which resulted in two vehicles being seized.

One of the vehicles, a SEAT Ibiza, was reportedly seen wheel-spinning and accelerating aggressively close to officers who were already dealing with another incident.

A VW Golf was also stopped following driving which police said appeared consistent with street racing and anti-social vehicle use.

Police say Boston Market Place continues to be a hotspot for reports of nuisance vehicle activity and have reassured residents that action will be taken where offences are identified.

Lincolnshire Police said anti-social driving can have a significant impact on communities, affecting residents’ quality of life and leaving people feeling unsafe.

Officers have also highlighted recent changes to legislation which provide police with stronger powers to tackle anti-social vehicle use.

In appropriate circumstances, vehicles can now be seized without a previous warning having been issued.

Police have thanked residents who continue to report incidents, saying information from the public helps officers target patrols and take action against drivers causing disruption in the community.
