Boston United chairman David Newton has shared an important update following the appointment of a new CEO.
With its rapid progression over recent seasons, Boston United have taken the step of appointing a chief executive officer to oversee the further development of the club.
Subject to clearance by the Independent Football Regulator, United have appointed Allan Ross to this important role at the club.
Chairman David Newton commented: “The business has grown massively since the move to the new stadium some five years ago. This role has been required for some time, but to date we have been unable to commit to the expenditure, however it is clear that someone is needed in this important role to assist the directors in moving the club forward.
“Firstly, his role is to support our existing extremely dedicated and hard-working staff, and secondly to work with the directors to drive the business forward.
“His role will not include the ‘football side’ (player recruitment and so on) but will focus on the business. That said, we also need to improve the matchday experience and fan engagement, and that will be a key part of Allan’s remit.
“The board had just taken the decision to implement this role when it came to our attention that Allan had left his previous employment. He has been known to the club for many years and is well-known and respected locally. He has gained extensive business experience in the various roles that he has held, and we were very impressed when we had the chance to sit down and discuss the role we had available, and our vision for the club going forward.
“Allan actually started his association with a club as a young player in our academy set-up, and then moved on to a coaching role, so he has a very long and successful association with Boston United.
“He is young, energetic, and has a huge passion for the club. He understands football and how important a club is to its fans and the wider local community, so we were delighted to offer him the role, which he accepted without hesitation.
“Allan cannot fully take up his role with the club until he has been through the IFR approval process, and that process has been instigated. Until the IFR verification has been concluded, he cannot excerpt any influence over the club whatsoever, but you may see him around as he will have a purely ;fact-finding; role until the IFR process has been concluded.
“During the discussion with Allan, we had stressed that he must take the time to understand everyone’s varied roles at the club before he makes any suggestions of changes and improvements, so the IFR process and our initial requirements of him align perfectly. We do not anticipate any issues through the vetting process, and hope that his appointment can be confirmed as soon as possible.
“Allan will also have an involvement in the Community Foundation, where he will support community manager Nick Reeson, with the further development of their varied programmes, but importantly he will also work to bring the football club and the Foundation closer to maximise the benefits of closer working for both businesses, the end users, and the staff.
“The business has changed beyond recognition since we moved to the Jakemans Community Stadium and we achieved promotion to the National League. All the progress to date has been done in a controlled and planned way, and this is the next step along the road in the process.
“Myself, the other directors and Allan are acutely aware that our media presence is currently not sufficient for a club of our standing, and the interaction with our wonderful fans falls well short of where wish it to be, but once again this has been due to the resources available, and the priority we had to give to providing the best possible budget for the first team, and turning the club into a full-time professional set up over the past couple of years. To address this, we will also begin the search for a media officer.
“We are delighted that Allan has joined us, and we look forward to working with him to drive the football club and Community Foundation forward.”
