Boston Town ended their losing streak in a close derby at home to Bourne Town.
Remarkably, it was their first draw of the whole of 2026. Since their goalless game away at Skegness Town in December, Chris Funnell’s side have played 23 games, winning 15 and losing 8.
Zak Munton gave the home side an early lead against his former club with a perfect looping shot into the top corner after only eight minutes. It was just the tonic the Poachers needed after four successive defeats. Harry Limb went close to making it 2-0 six minutes later as his shot skimmed the top of the bar.
But in-form Bourne, who had won their previous two games 5-1 and 3-0, levelled after 18 minutes. Zac Allen slotted it past Sam Edwards after it was flicked on from a long throw.
The Poachers twice threatened to restore their lead early in the second half. First Munton pounced when Bourne keeper Will Lakin’s drop kick hit one of his own defenders, but he was was off target with his shot. Then great hold-up play from Tom Siddons played in Fraser Bayliss but when he pulled it back, Munton’s shot was just inches wide.
The draw moves Boston Town up one place to 10th in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division table.
They now have a blank weekend because their scheduled opponents Nuneaton Town are in FA Cup action. The Poachers next play on Wedneday 9 September when they face a long away trip to Coventry United, kick-off 7.45pm. Their next home game will be on Satruday 12 September. Kick-off at the Mortgages For You Stadium will be 3pm.
