Boston’s iconic Stump will soon be illuminating the town’s skyline as the installation of a new lighting scheme gets underway.
The much-loved St Botolph’s is benefitting from new external lighting that will allow it to impressively light up the town in different colours to mark special occasions and causes.
The external improvements are being complemented by internal works that will create a better lit space inside the church for the thousands of people who step through the Stump’s doors each year.
The installation is being supported by the Towns Fund through Boston Town Board and follows on from the complete and sensitive renovation of the Stump’s library in 2023. The refurbishment secured the future of the library which was established in 1634 and which hosts a historically important book collection that dates back to 1170.
Thanks to these improvements, which included wall repairs, new décor, UV filters, temperature control, and new bookcases, St Botolph’s library has been able to open to the public and welcome in visitors from around the world.
The works are being carried out by local suppliers with the lights supplied by Dazzled Lighting Ltd and all installation works carried out by SJG Electrical & Security Ltd.
Claire Foster, Interim Chair, Boston Town Board said: “It’s great to see the new lighting scheme now being installed. The Board has been keen to support these works because St Botolph’s is such a historically and culturally important building in the town, for local people and visitors alike, and these improvements will enhance what is already such a vital asset in Boston.
“The new lighting, together with the fantastic refurbishment of the library a few years ago, will strengthen the Stump even move as a place to visit and spend time and will allow it to light up the town’s skyline.”
Chris Ladner, Reader and Parish Resource Manager said: “The new lighting will allow us to play an even brighter role in the town and we’ll be able to light up to support causes and special days.
“The internal lighting will also help us to play host to more events inside, meaning we can offer more experiences and activities and welcome more people in.
“We are so pleased to have this investment in the Stump. We’ve already seen the difference that the Towns Fund has made to our library which for so long was an undiscovered historical gem in the town but which now welcomes in visitors from Boston and further afield.”
