Emergency road works are set to take place tonight to repair a large pothole on a bridge over the Forty Foot Drain on Spalding Road in Boston, following multiple reports from concerned motorists.

Several drivers raised the alarm through the FixMyStreet reporting system in recent days, warning that the defect had grown significantly and was causing issues for vehicles using the busy route.

A spokesperson confirmed that Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways Department will be carrying out urgent repairs overnight specifically to lessen disruption for road users.

The spokesperson for the authority said: “The works on the bridge are scheduled to happen tonight, starting at 19.00 for the nighttime works to lessen impact on local traffic flow. We will be carrying out the repair on a lane closure and contraflowing traffic around the roundabout to the south of the bridge.

“We will lift the temporary contraflow as soon as the works are completed later tonight. We are carrying out the work in the evening so as to cause as little disruption as possible in the area.”

Drivers may experience minimal disruption while the emergency works are completed, as Spalding Road will be subject to lane closures, and motorists are advised to take extra care if travelling through the area this evening.
