Anglian Water has announced a change to the schedule for its planned £3.1 million upgrade of 4.5 kilometres of water pipes in Old Leake. The project, designed to replace ageing infrastructure that has been prone to bursts and leaks, is now expected to start early next year and run through to summer.
The company says urgent work elsewhere in the region now needs to take priority, which has led to the revised start date. Residents will be informed as soon as a confirmed timeline is available through letters, emails, and updates on the Anglian Water website.
Old Leake’s existing water pipes have reached the end of their useful life, and repeated bursts have at times affected the reliability of the water supply. This upgrade will ensure that homes and businesses continue to receive safe, clean water for years to come.
Using directional drilling, more than 85% of the new pipeline will be installed underground, meaning the work can be carried out with less disruption to roads, homes, and local businesses. The approach also reduces the project’s environmental impact by minimising the amount of digging required.
While most of the pipeline will be installed underground, some road closures and temporary traffic lights will be needed to keep staff and the public safe.
During the work, it may be necessary to temporarily shut off water supply to connect the new pipes to the existing network. Anglian Water says it will notify affected households in advance so residents can plan accordingly.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We know delays can be frustrating, and we really appreciate residents bearing with us. As soon as we have confirmed dates, we will provide updates via letters, emails, and our website.”
Residents are encouraged to check the Anglian Water website for updates and further information on the pipeline route and the project’s progress.
