Kieren Donnelly and Jordy Hiwula got themselves on the scoresheet as Boston United roared back to winning ways on Saturday evening.

Donnelly opened the scoring in the 20th minute against Tamworth – and Hiwula doubled the advantage from the spot six minutes after the break.

Donnelly added his second goal in the 56th minute and United remained in full control, despite Dillon De Silva’s consolation in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

United boss Graham Coughlan was, crucially, able to welcome back defenders Zak Mills and Alex Lankshear from suspension and injury respectively.

The Pilgrims were forced to defend a series of Tom Tonks long throws and gradually got themselves a foothold in the game – and took the lead after 20 minutes.

Marcel Lavinier did well to beat Luke Fairlamb down the United right and cut the ball back across for DONNELLY to spin sharply and beat Jas Singh with a rising drive into the top corner.

Donnelly subsequently headed wide from a Matty Carson corner – moments before Carson was forced off with a rib injury.

United’s lead was increased six minutes after the break when HIWULA was brought down by Singh, on the end of Rhys Lovett’s towering clearance, and the Boston striker picked himself up to bury the spot-kick.

Another Lovett clearance downfield allowed DONNELLY into the clear five minutes later – and he calmly lobbed an onrushing Singh to put the Pilgrims into dreamland.

Tamworth continued to apply pressure from all angles – but they did not get close until the eighth minute of added time when Sutton United loanee DE SILVA marked his Lambs’ debut with a close-range strike.
