Boston Woods Trust has completed significant improvement works at Jenny’s Wood, with both of the site’s ponds recently dredged and cleared of reeds. The project, carried out over the summer, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the woodland for both visitors and wildlife.

The clearance has already transformed the area, opening up the ponds and making the water more visible than in recent years. The Trust says the work will not only create a more attractive feature for visitors but will also improve conditions for aquatic life and biodiversity in the wider woodland.

However, despite the current lower water levels following a hot and dry summer, the Trust has issued a clear safety warning. While the ponds may appear shallow from the edges, the centres remain very deep, posing a risk to anyone venturing too close. With access now more open following the clearance, visitors are urged to remain cautious, particularly those with children or dogs.

A spokesperson for Boston Woods Trust said: “The two ponds by Jenny’s Wood have been dredged and cleared of reeds. Although the water level seems low after this hot dry summer please be aware that the centre of the pools are still very deep. This is a potential danger now the access is so open.

“Over the next few months the water level will rise and extend the area of the ponds and the vegetation will quickly start to regrow. In future we hope to manage the reeds to keep the pond waters more visible and accessible.”

Jenny’s Wood forms part of the wider Boston Woods project, a community-driven initiative that has transformed acres of farmland into a thriving green space over the past two decades. The site is popular with walkers, families, and nature lovers, and is maintained entirely through the efforts of volunteers and charitable donations.
