Centenary Methodist Church in Boston is set for a major transformation after receiving £250,000 from the Boston Partnership Fund, allocated through Boston Borough Council.
The substantial investment will support the creation of a brand-new community room within the church, redecoration of the Grade II* listed building, and continued delivery of essential services that the church provides to those most in need across Boston and the wider borough.
Centenary Methodist Church has long been a cornerstone of Boston’s spiritual and community life, hosting Boston’s Wellbeing Hub and a whole variety of social groups, support sessions, and outreach initiatives, from providing warm spaces and nutritious meals for those struggling with rising living costs and supporting local families.
Church representatives have welcomed the news, highlighting how the funding will make a lasting difference. Revd Dr Val Ogden said: ‘Centenary feels so humbled and blessed to receive this unexpected funding. We look forward to using it wisely and well to enhance this precious place as we love and serve our neighbours day by day’.
Project manager Martin Criddle said, ‘This grant will make a tremendous difference as we future-proof Centenary and make sure the building is fit for its contemporary purposes.’
The refurbishment will be carried out sensitively, in a way that preserves the church’s historic features, ensuring the building remains both beautiful and functional.
Work is expected to begin later this year, with further updates on project timelines and community involvement opportunities set to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Boston Partnership Fund was established to support key projects that bring social, economic, or cultural benefits to the borough, making this investment in Centenary Methodist Church a prime example of public money helping to protect both local heritage and community wellbeing.
