A burst water main has brought significant disruption to Boston town centre this morning, affecting traffic, public transport, and essential services.
Anglian Water has confirmed the incident, which has forced the closure of South Street from Boston Market Place, and is causing low water pressure or complete loss of supply to homes and businesses in the area. The company has issued the following update: “We’re really sorry but some customers in South Street and surrounding areas may have either very low water pressure or no water at all. This is being caused by a burst water main in your area. We’re aiming to have everything fixed by 12:00 pm on 30 June 2025 but we’ll update this message if anything changes. Thanks for your patience.”
Among the worst affected is Greyfriars Surgery, which has been left without water and is also experiencing communication issues due to the incident. In a statement shared this morning, the surgery said: “There is currently a burst water pipe in Boston which is affecting access to the Surgery. We currently do not have any water and our Comms has gone down, this means we have no phones working at the moment. We are working hard to put plans into place and will update you when we know more. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The disruption is also hitting public transport in the town. Local bus operator Brylaine Travel has announced that all of its services will temporarily stop operating from Boston Market Place, instead diverting to the bus station: “Good morning. Due to road closures WE ARE NOT serving Boston Market Place. All our services will be operating from the bus station until further notice. Thank you for your patience.”
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible, as traffic builds up around the closure zone. Meanwhile, Anglian Water teams remain on site working to repair the damaged main, with hopes of restoring full service by lunchtime.
Further updates are expected throughout the day as the situation develops.
