Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that there is no truth to a rumour circulating on social media suggesting that a body was recovered from the Maud Foster Drain in Boston on Wednesday morning.

Speculation began on the community focussed Facebook page, Boston the People (United Kingdom) claiming that a body had been discovered in the waterway. However, police have moved swiftly to quash the misinformation.

In a statement released this morning, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are aware of a social media post circulating regarding a body being found in the Maud Foster Drain in Boston. We can confirm that this information is false. There is no ongoing investigation relating to a body in the drain and no such incident has occurred.”

Officers urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information online, which can cause unnecessary distress and confusion within the community.

“We understand that emergency service presence can sometimes raise concerns,” the spokesperson added, “but we ask the public to rely on official sources before sharing speculation.”

Local residents are reminded to report any concerns directly to the police via 101 or in an emergency, by calling 999.
