This weekend sees the launch of Boston Borough Council’s Boston Christmas Festival throughout the town centre, and here’s your guide as to what to expect.
Throughout the 3-day event you will also find a variety of other things on offer across our town such as small family fun fair including Cakewalk, synthetic ice skating rink, street and stage entertainment and Christmas Tree Festival
Friday 29th November 2024
Kicking off the festivities on Day 1 of the Boston Christmas Festival 2024, you can experience the Light Switch On, an illumination parade through the town, walkabout entertainment including stiltwalkers, reindeer performers and flying Santas, and live music to truly kick off the festive season in style. There will also be community events throughout the day inside Boston Stump
- 12 noon – Community Events open in Boston Stump
- 2pm – Christmas Market opens in Market Place
- 2pm – Ice rink opens in Wide Bargate
- 2pm – Fairground opens at Bargate Green
- 3pm – Free face painting in Market Place
- 4pm – Grand opening led by The Biz (on stage)
- 5pm – Panto – Beauty and The Beast (on stage)
- 5.45pm – Illuminate “Folktakes” Parade
- 5.45pm – Izzy Wright performance (on stage)
- 6.45pm – Christmas Light Switch On by Beauty and the Beast
- 7pm – Stolen Fridays (on stage)
- 7pm – Pescod Square Christmas Light Switch On
- 8pm – Fairground closes
Saturday 30th November 2024
Day 2 of the Boston Christmas Festival features some fantastic family-friendly activities, and Boston’s Got Christmas Talent on the main stage.
- 8am – Boston Christmas Market incorporating Saturday Market opens
- 10am – Stage Entertainment throughout the day with The Biz
- 10am – Fairground opens at Bargate Green
- 11am – FREE Christmas arts & crafts in the Market Place
- 11am – Chiana-Mai Sillet (on stage)
- 12 noon – Community events open in Boston Stump
- 12 noon – performance by Salvation Army (on stage)
- 12 noon – Ice rink opens for quiet hour
- 1pm – Ice rink opens for all
- 1pm – Boston’s Got Talent (on stage)
- 1.30pm – FREE face painting in the Market Place
- 3pm – Famous Unknowns (on stage)
- 4pm – Crossfire (on stage)
- 5pm – 11th Hour (on stage)
- 6.30pm – Fairground closes
Sunday 1st December 2024
Sunday sees the festival off in true celebratory fashion with the annual Santa Fun Run, Christmas crafts, carol singers, and walkabout entertainment.
- 9am – Santa Fun Run arrival for 10am start
- 9am – Boston’s Christmas Market incorporating Teenage Market opens
- 10am – Ice rink opens for quiet hour
- 10am – Fairground opens in Bargate Green for quiet hour
- 11am – Ice rink & fairground opens for all
- 11am – Charlie the Elf on stage with fun and games
- 11.30am – FREE Christmas arts & crafts and face painting in the Market Place
- 12 noon – Community Acts (on stage)
- 2pm – Matty Haynes (on stage)
- 3pm – Winner of Boston’s Got Talent and grand finale
- 4pm – all closes
Free car parking will be available in all Boston Borough Council owned car parks from Friday 29th November through to 4pm on Sunday 1st December, and every Saturday (7th, 14th and 21st December)
Boston Christmas Festival Ice Rink
Get ready to glide into the festive season at the Boston Christmas Festival’s synthetic ‘ice’ rink, located at Bargate Green car park! This exciting attraction is perfect for all ages and offers a magical winter experience right in the heart of Boston.
Opening hours:
- Friday 29 November: 2pm to 8pm
- Saturday 30 November: 12noon to 6pm
- Additional Needs Quiet Hour: 12noon to 1pm (without music and with fewer skaters)
- Sunday 1 December: 10am to 4pm
- Additional Needs Quiet Hour: 10am to 11am (without music and with fewer skaters)
Cost:
- £2 per 30-minute session
- Under 5’s skate for free
Ticket information:
- Tickets can be purchased on the day for specific 30-minute time slots from the Boston Borough Council gazebo at Bargate Green car park.
- Please bring the correct change where possible.
- No advanced bookings for Saturday or Sunday.
Skating details:
- Ice skating boot hire is included in the price. Boots can be collected from the gazebo.
- For insurance purposes, personal ice skating boots are not permitted.
- The rink can accommodate up to 35 skaters per session.
Accessibility:
- At least 2 mobility penguins for children and adults, and at least one ‘fun chair’ for those with additional needs or anyone struggling to skate are available. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
