Boston Borough Council and Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) are further investing in Central Park with work scheduled to improve the accessibility of pathways.
The announcement comes as a new flagpole has been installed in the park, proudly flying the Central Park’s Green Flag Award. The award, which was achieved for the first time in July, is an internationally recognised benchmark for parks and green spaces, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
The park has benefited from significant improvements through partnership working and ongoing investment. The pathway improvement scheme will be funded by Boston Town Area Committee, alongside a contribution from the Pride in Place Impact Fund.
The work will improve accessibility, safety and the overall visitor experience within Central Park. It will also support the park’s ongoing Green Flag Award assessment and help maintain its award-winning status.
Cllr Barrie Pierpoint, Chairman of BTAC, said: “BTAC is pleased to support this investment in Central Park’s pathways, which will improve accessibility for all users and enhance the experience for visitors. Better paths will also make it easier for people to access the park’s facilities and amenities.
“Central Park is an important community asset and we are incredibly proud of its Green Flag status and the hard work of everyone involved in achieving it. This scheme forms part of the continued investment in the park as a valued and well-used public open space.”
Cllr Claire Rylott, Portfolio Holder for Green Spaces and Travel at Boston Borough Council, said: “It is wonderful to see the Green flag flying at Central Park. It is a visible reminder of the high standards that the Council, volunteers and partners have worked so hard to achieve.
“The pathway improvements will make a real difference for residents and visitors. It is important that everyone can enjoy this much-loved green space, whether meeting friends, taking exercise or simply spending time outdoors to support their physical and mental wellbeing.”
The work on the pathways is scheduled for the New Year.
