Spectators watching Stage Two of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men from Boston to Skegness are set to enjoy a spectacular tribute from the skies, with flypasts from the world-famous Red Arrows and a Spitfire marking key points of the race.
The Red Arrows will soar over riders at the start of Stage Two in Boston, while the iconic Spitfire will provide a dramatic finale as competitors reach the finish line in Skegness on Thursday, September 3.
The flypasts will create a unique celebration of Lincolnshire’s heritage, the courage and skill of those taking to the skies and the brilliance of the athletes competing on two wheels.
They will add an unforgettable dimension to a stage, hosted by East Lindsey District Council and Boston Borough Council, that already promises to showcase the best of Lincolnshire to a national and international audience.
Af the start of the race, the RAF Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, renowned worldwide for its breathtaking displays, will provide a fitting salute to the riders as they begin their journey through Lincolnshire.
And at the finish in Skegness, the Spitfire, one of the most recognisable aircraft in British history – a powerful symbol of resilience and engineering – will mark a memorable conclusion to the race above the Lincolnshire coast.
Leader of Boston Borough Council Councillor Dale Broughton, said: “These flypasts will provide a powerful tribute from the skies in honour of an international class of cyclists, creating a truly unforgettable day for competitors, residents and visitors alike.”
Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “The sight of these legendary aircraft flying above and the spectacle of dozens of riders racing on two wheels below will be an awe-inspiring sight. We are really looking forward to it.”
