Lincolnshire hospitals have partnered with the ‘Too Good To Go’ app to cut food waste and support sustainability.
The catering teams across Lincoln, Grantham and Boston hospitals provide delicious and nourishing food for thousands of patients, visitors and staff every day.
Due to the amount of food they provide, there is often perfectly good, leftover food, which would usually go in the bin, contributing to the hospital’s overall waste.
To help reduce the waste, Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, and Grantham and District Hospital have all signed up to ‘Too Good To Go’, which is a food waste app that lets people purchase discounted surprise bags of surplus food from local cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Across Lincoln, Boston and Grantham hospitals, the ‘Too Good To Go’ bags will be priced at £3.99 and will contain a contents value of £12, offering a great discount.
Matthew Charlton, Head of Catering at Lincolnshire Community Hospitals and NHS Group, said: “It’s brilliant that we can offer these surprise bags and help us reduce our waste. The bags will be available for anyone who uses the app to purchase, and they will include items such as sandwiches, cakes and pastries that have not been sold in the restaurants during the day.”
Mike Parkhill, Group Chief Estates and Facilities Officer at Lincolnshire Community Hospitals and NHS Group, said: “We are so pleased to be able to offer these bags across our sites at such a fantastic, discounted price.
“This is a simple but effective way to reduce food waste across our hospital sites, while offering real value to our local communities. Initiatives like this play an important role in supporting our sustainability ambitions and delivering our NHS Green Plan.”
