The Worshipful the Mayor of Boston, Cllr Barrie Pierpoint, has visited a new independent living home in Boston for adults with learning difficulties and autism.

Charismatic Care Ltd, which provide professional home care and personalised support for adults with learning difficulties, have converted a home in the town centre to support adults and families in the Borough.

The home can accommodate three adults with learning difficulties and enable them to be independent while still living close to their families.

Cllr Barrie Pierpoint, The Worshipful The Mayor of Boston, and Mayoress Pamela Love, were welcomed on a tour of the house.

Cllr Pierpoint said: “This is an absolutely amazing facility and something that will make a huge difference to families with young adults with learning difficulties.

“What this home provides will give young adults confidence, happiness and independence while allowing them to still being close to family, friends and the town they know.

“This facility is very much needed in Boston and I hope this is just the start of more to come.

“I wish Charismatic Care the very best and every success with their new venture.”

During the visit, Cllr Pierpoint was told about how the organisation became established in Boston after supporting their first client from the town.

The young person’s mother, Hannah Ward, said: “My son has lived in Boston all his life, he volunteers at Freiston Shore, enjoys watching football and goes to groups within the town.

“We were faced with the heartbreaking situation of him having to go and live miles away on a residential placement, away from all the people he knows and his life in Boston. It’s been a long battle to get the care and support he needs to live independently, all we have ever wanted was the best for him and to be near his family.

“We eventually discovered Charismatic Care who have been brilliant and we worked together to produce a person-centred plan for him. In August 2022, they started to provide care within our home. It has been transformational not only for my sons but for our own family after years of battling the system.

“The model they have provided for us will help other parents and people with learning difficulties here in Boston. This house will be transformational for families like ours – a facility like this is long overdue in Boston.”

Gifty Agyemang, care manager of Charismatic Care said: “When I decided to step into the role of a care manager, I carried with me over 11 years of frontline and managerial experience as a registered nurse and registered social worker. I had seen the struggles families faced when searching for reliable support.

“My goal was to create a service where families felt understood, valued, and supported from the very beginning.

“That vision was put to the test when I was contacted by a parent from Boston. She had spent months searching for a suitable provider for her child, only to encounter long waiting lists, inconsistent communication, and a lack of understanding around the child’s specific needs. By the time she reached me, she was exhausted, worried, and close to giving up hope.

“From our first conversation, I sensed her desperation but also her unwavering love and determination. I wanted her to feel heard. After understanding the challenges she had faced, I made a decision that would shape the rest of my journey: I offered to travel and complete the full assessment free of charge. It was important to me that she knew my commitment wasn’t transactional; it was rooted in genuine care and belief in her child’s worth.

“Soon after the assessment, the parent informed me that Charismatic Care had been selected to provide the service.

“That moment I had my first client in Boston became the foundation of everything that followed. It reaffirmed my purpose and reminded me that going the extra mile will always set you apart.”
