A Boston man has been charged in connection with a fatal collision on the A17 which claimed the life of a toddler.

Hristo Iliev, 32, of Hide Close, Boston, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following an investigation by Lincolnshire Police.

The charges relate to a three-vehicle collision on the A17 approaching Holdingham roundabout, near Sleaford, at around 4.45pm on Wednesday 19 March 2025.

Tragically, the incident led to the death of 20-month-old Finley Baker. He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A driver involved in the collision was also seriously injured.

The crash involved three vehicles: a white Audi, a silver Kia Ceed, and a black Volkswagen Passat. Other occupants sustained minor injuries.

A 31-year-old man, who was driving the Volkswagen Passat, was previously arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

In the immediate aftermath of the collision, Lincolnshire Police issued an appeal for witnesses and information. Officers asked whether anyone had been travelling along the A17 between Sleaford and Newark between 4.15pm and 4.45pm on the day of the incident, or had seen a dark-coloured Volkswagen Passat travelling eastbound towards Sleaford.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, with drivers advised to seek alternative routes. It remained shut until around 2.30am the following morning.

Mr Iliev is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on 23 April 2026.
