Commuters in Boston are facing significant delays once again today after a fault developed at the railway level crossing on the A16 Spalding Road — marking the second consecutive day of disruption.
The barriers are currently understood to be stuck in the down position, preventing traffic from passing through the busy route. With the evening rush hour fast approaching, motorists are being warned to expect heavy congestion in and around the area.
Engineers have been dispatched and are en route to assess and repair the issue, although there is currently no confirmed timeframe for when the crossing will reopen.
Local bus operator Brylaine Travel issued an update on social media earlier today, warning passengers of the impact on services. A spokesperson said: “We’ve just been informed that the train barriers on the A16 Spalding Road are stuck down again. We have been notified engineers are aware of the issue and are currently working to fix it, but we don’t yet know how long it will take.”
They added: “Please allow extra time for your journey and expect delays. For timetables and any other info, please visit: www.brylaine.co.uk.”
The repeated fault is likely to cause frustration for drivers and public transport users alike, particularly following similar disruption at the same location yesterday.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes where possible and plan ahead as delays are expected to worsen throughout the peak travel period.
Network Rail has been approached for further comment.
