Residents across Boston and the wider area are being urged to take extra care after the Met Office issued a Yellow weather warning for ice, in force from 5pm today until 10am tomorrow.
The warning comes as a band of rain and sleet is expected to clear southwards across England and Wales this evening and overnight, with a little snow possible on higher ground. As skies clear later, temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing, increasing the risk of icy patches forming on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The Met Office says people should be prepared for difficult travel conditions, with the possibility of some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are all being advised to take extra care. Untreated surfaces in particular could become slippery, especially overnight and during the early morning.
To reduce the risk, residents are encouraged to:
- Plan journeys carefully and, where possible, leave at least five minutes earlier than usual to avoid rushing.
- Stick to main roads and pavements, which are more likely to have been treated, if travelling on foot or by bike.
- Check road conditions and public transport timetables before setting off, and amend travel plans if necessary.
The Met Office also reminds people that weather warnings can change and advises everyone to stay up to date with the latest local forecasts.
The warning remains in place until 10am tomorrow, when temperatures are expected to rise and conditions should gradually improve.
