Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA) has experienced its busiest January on record, responding to 167 missions throughout the month – an average of 5.4 lifesaving missions every single day.

It marks a significant increase in demand for the charity’s life-saving emergency care across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

The charity currently has a helicopter and critical care cars stationed at their HQ in Waddington, Lincolnshire. They also cover Nottingham with a dedicated critical care car, which also recorded its busiest January since its introduction in 2020 – highlighting the essential need for the charity’s day and night critical care response.

While most callouts were in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, LNAA crews were tasked across six counties, including a mission in Yorkshire, where the team worked alongside Yorkshire Air Ambulance on a joint response.

Across January, LNAA crews flew patients to 12 hospitals, reflecting the wide geographical area and the complexity of incidents attended.

The charity’s busiest week fell between January 23 and 29, when crews responded to 43 missions.

LNAA’s Chief Operating Officer, Stuart Elms, said: “January has demonstrated the continual and growing need for our service. Every mission represents someone facing one of the worst moments of their life, and our crews are there to deliver the highest level of critical care possible. We can only do this because of the generosity of the communities we serve.”

LNAA receives no government funding and relies on donations to keep its helicopter, critical care cars, and highly skilled clinicians operational every hour of the day.
