Rail services between Nottingham and Grantham have been suspended this afternoon following a serious incident in which a person was struck by a train.

East Midlands Railway confirmed that emergency services are currently on site managing the situation, which has caused major disruption to services on both the Nottingham–Skegness route and the Liverpool–Nottingham–Norwich route.

All trains on the Nottingham–Skegness line are unable to run in either direction. Services on the Liverpool–Nottingham–Norwich route may be diverted on a train-by-train basis, but will not call at Grantham.

Passengers are being advised that journeys may be delayed by up to 60 minutes. A rail replacement bus service has been arranged from Bottesford to Nottingham, calling at Bingham and Radcliffe, while customers at Skegness are being assisted by station staff, with taxis arranged where necessary.

Tickets are also being accepted at no extra cost on the following services:

  • East Midlands Railway between Nottingham and Leicester
  • Greater Anglia between Norwich and Peterborough
  • CrossCountry between Leicester and Ely

The rail operator said it expects the line to reopen within the next three hours, with services returning to their advertised timetable by around 4pm.

A spokesperson added that passengers delayed by more than 15 minutes may be entitled to compensation under the Delay Repay scheme, and those who choose not to travel can apply for a refund.

Support has also been highlighted for anyone affected by the incident, with Samaritans available 24 hours a day on 116 123 or via samaritans.org/railsupport.
