Following the Christmas Day collision which saw a vehicle crash through the wall of The Old Kings Head in Kirton, the venue’s owners have launched a community fundraising initiative to support St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church.
On 25 December, a Ford Fiesta left the road and struck the wall of the village centre hotel and pub, causing significant damage. Emergency services attended the scene and, following structural assessments, the building was later confirmed to be safe.
While specialist restoration works are being planned, the owners have constructed a large temporary wall on the affected section of the building. The wall has been divided into 500 individual blocks, each available to purchase for £2, with all proceeds being donated in full to St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church, Kirton, which forms part of the Pilgrim Group of Parishes alongside All Saints Church, Fosdyke and St. Nicholas’ Church, Skirbeck.
Once all of the blocks have been sold, The Old Kings Head will also organise a charity raffle, with the prize including an afternoon tea for two, to further boost funds for the church.
Mark and Katharine Nundy, owners of The Old Kings Head, said: “After what was a very unsettling incident on Christmas Day, we wanted to find a positive way to give something back to the village. By turning the temporary wall into a block fundraiser, we hope to support St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church in Kirton, which is such an important part of the community and also part of the wider Pilgrim Group of Parishes. We’re grateful for the support shown and hope this small idea can make a meaningful difference.”
The Old Kings Head reopened in June 2025 under the Nundys’ ownership, following a period of closure when the building was previously operated by Heritage Lincolnshire.
