One of Boston’s Grade II listed buildings is undergoing a refurbishment that will restore its appearance to its former glory.

22 Wide Bargate has already benefitted from significant investment by owners Crowland & Wolf which has seen the interior converted from an office building into affordable accommodation.

Now, the building’s external features are set to be restored as a revamp takes place, supported by a grant through the Towns Fund programme under the control of Boston Town Board.

The grant is part of the Healing the High Street Project which aims to bring improvements to the town centre’s historic buildings and is delivered by Heritage Lincolnshire.

The refurbishment to the outside of the building is now getting started and it is expected that this phase of work, which is being carried out by architects Scorer Hawkins and Carre Heritage will complete in spring.

Myriam Sohail of Crowland & Wolf said: “The Towns Fund grant has given us the opportunity to improve the appearance of this beautiful building.

“We have been pleased to invest in this property and add value to the area by bringing a disused space back into use.

“We are excited to get started on this final phase of work which will enhance the overall look and feel of this historic building that has been part of Boston town centre for many, many years.”

Claire Foster, Interim Chair of Boston Town Board commented: “Our Healing the High Street scheme was set up to help to revitalise the town by working with owners to restore the external features of historic buildings.

“Through this programme, we are able to play a role in conserving buildings like 22 Wide Bargate for the future.

“The Board is pleased that another historic building in Boston is benefitting from this scheme, and I look forward to seeing the end result.”

Work carried out and funded by the owners on the interior of the building took place between March 2024 and August 2024 with architect Chris Lilley Architectural Services and contractor Ranshaw Group.
