Rail services between Sleaford and Skegness have been brought to a halt this afternoon due to a fault with the signalling system at Heckington, causing disruption on the Nottingham, Grantham and Skegness line.
The issue was confirmed at 4.05pm, with Network Rail set to attend the site to investigate the fault. Until the problem is resolved, trains are unable to run in either direction between Sleaford and Skegness.
Rail operators currently expect the disruption to be resolved within the next two hours, with services aiming to return to their normal timetable by 6pm.
In the meantime, alternative travel arrangements are being put in place. Rail replacement buses have been ordered to operate between Skegness and Sleaford in both directions, and are expected to arrive on site between 5pm and 5.30pm, with exact timings to be confirmed.
Passengers are advised that arranging alternative transport can take time, and rail staff have thanked customers for their patience while efforts continue to keep people moving.
Further updates are expected as Network Rail assess and work to repair the signalling fault.
