Emergency repair work is now under way on Tattershall Road in Boston after a sinkhole was reported to Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways Department on Tuesday 2 December.

Anglian Water teams are currently on site repairing a damaged section of the sewer network which carries wastewater from nearby properties. To protect both workers and the public, a stretch of Tattershall Road north of Green Lane has been fully closed.

Residents say the closure has caused growing frustration, with some motorists reportedly removing road closure signs and barriers to continue using the route. In response, additional safety measures and reinforced barriers have now been installed to prevent vehicles from entering the works area.

Anglian Water has warned that some disruption is unavoidable while repairs are carried out but thanked the community for its patience. A spokesperson said safety remains their top priority, adding that large equipment, vehicles, and bright lighting will be in use throughout the project. Noise is also expected at various stages of the operation.

On-street parking has been temporarily suspended, though residents with private driveways will still have access. However, vehicle access to properties may only be possible from one end of the road depending on the day’s activity.

Despite the scale of the work, Anglian Water confirmed that household water and sewerage services will not be affected.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for any traffic disruption on Tattershall Road in Boston this week. This is due a burst surface water main which has caused a void in the road. In order to keep members of the public and our team safe during the repair, we have closed the road and all going well, we expect to reinstate the road at the end of next week.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we complete this essential work.”

The restoration of the road and completion of sewer repairs is currently estimated for 18:00 on 19 December 2025.
