Commuters travelling between Boston and Sleaford are being reminded that further disruption is expected this weekend, as Network Rail carries out the final stage of a major £2 million track renewal project in Lincolnshire.

To keep passengers moving, rail replacement buses will once again operate between Boston and Sleaford for all East Midlands Railway services throughout the weekend.

This work marks the second and final phase of a significant engineering programme aimed at improving long-term reliability on the busy Nottingham–Skegness line. An amended timetable will remain in place on Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 December

Network Rail engineers are in the process of installing 2.4km (1.5 miles) of brand new track at Boardsides near Boston. The upgrade includes fitting more than 3,800 sleepers to support the new rails and laying approximately 4,200 tonnes of ballast, which will stabilise the line and help create smoother, quieter, and more dependable journeys for passengers in the years ahead.

With trains unable to run through the affected section during the works, services will start and terminate at different stations, and journey times may be extended.

Passengers are strongly advised to plan ahead and check for the latest service updates before travelling. The most up-to-date information can be found on the National Rail Enquiries and East Midlands Railway websites.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said: “We’re investing £2 million to renew the track near Boston, which will make journeys smoother and more reliable for passengers.

“This work is essential to keep the railway safe and efficient for years to come. We appreciate people’s patience while we carry out these improvements and advise passengers to check before they travel.”

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director for EMR, said: “We recommend customers planning to travel to Skegness over the next two weekends (29 and 30 November or 6 and 7 December) to check their journey in advance as there will be an amended timetable in place, with trains running between Nottingham and Sleaford and between Boston and Skegness.

“There will be a connecting rail replacement bus service running between Sleaford and Boston, calling at Heckington.

“This work by Network Rail will help improve the reliability of our services in the long term, and we’d like to thank our customers for their patience while it takes place.”
