Lincolnshire housebuilder Chestnut Homes has teamed up with two local primary schools for a special poetry competition celebrating the county’s natural beauty and young creative talent.
Pupils aged seven to eleven years old from Monks Abbey Primary School in Lincoln and St Thomas’ CE Primary Academy in Wyberton, Boston took part in the activity, which forms part of Chestnut Homes’ ongoing commitment to engaging with schools and families within the local community.
The young poets crafted imaginative verses celebrating the area, capturing the essence of Lincolnshire. From playful rhymes about wildlife and the stunning outdoors, to heartwarming tales of family days out, the pupils’ poems truly brought the beauty of the region to the page.
Standout poems drafted by St Thomas Primary pupils, Elsie (Year 5) and Ellie (Year 3), and Monks Abbey Primary pupil Vidushi (Year 6) were selected as the competition winners. Each winner received a National Book Token voucher, designed to support their reading and English skills development, as part of Chestnut Homes’ commitment to encouraging lifelong learning and creativity.
Reflecting on what makes Lincolnshire such a special place to be, the winning poems’ themes highlighted the region’s beautiful green spaces, iconic landmarks, and the warm, welcoming communities that live there.
Robyn Pedley, marketing manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “We’ve been completely blown away by the pupils’ creativity in this poetry competition.
“We’re always really passionate about working with the communities in the areas we build in, while celebrating all the fantastic things that make Lincolnshire such a special county, and our collaborations with schools are always one of the highlights of what we do.
“This competition has been a wonderful opportunity to highlight not only the beauty of Lincolnshire but also the fantastic and thoughtful minds of the children who live here. We’ve really enjoyed reading each and every poem and finding out more about the pupils’ own experiences of life here in Lincolnshire. We thank all students who took part. Choosing a winner was certainly no mean feat, but huge congratulations to Elsie, Ellie and Vidushi for the very well-deserved win.”
Other highlights from the competition included descriptive scenes of the Red Arrows soaring across the sky and the rich history of the region with mentions of Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral and St. Botolph’s Church, most commonly known as the Boston Stump.
Alison Smith, Year 3,4 and 5 phase leader at St Thomas CE Primary Academy, said: “Watching our children draw on their growing knowledge of poetry to write about Lincolnshire has been truly inspiring.
“Through talking at home with their families and sharing ideas in class, they discovered together what makes our county so special – from its wide-open skies to its warm-hearted communities. Their poems celebrate not just where they live, but the pride they feel in calling Lincolnshire home.”
Chestnut Homes offers a diverse selection of two to five-bedroom homes across Lincolnshire including Kings Manor in Coningsby, The Meadows in Dunholme, Chantrey Park in Market Rasen, The Quadrant & Heron Park in Wyberton and Millers Walk in Sibsey.
