Outline plans for multi-million pound investment in Boston, shaped by feedback from local people, have been approved by Boston Borough Council’s Cabinet.

The plans, which have been developed by Boston Town Board, set out an ambitious ten-year vision for the town, as well as priorities for investment.

The plans have been developed after it was announced that Boston will benefit from up to £20M funding through the Government’s Pride in Place Programme over ten years from April 2026.

A vision of Boston as a ‘a place where history and progress walk hand in hand’ is detailed within the plans.

In addition, the plans outline proposed themes for projects for the first four years of the programme, based on the findings of consultation that was carried out this summer. Through this extensive programme, around 1,100 separate pieces of feedback were captured, building on previous engagement in 2024, to inform the plans that have been drawn up.

There are nine proposed  funding themes, with particular focus on investment in safety and security and town centre revitalisation, reflecting the high importance local people placed on these issues within consultation in both 2025 and 2024. The full list of project themes in the plans are:

  • Safety and Security
  • Town Centre Revitalisation
  • Heritage and Culture
  • Green Spaces and Connectivity
  • Education and Skills
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Housing
  • Community Capacity Building
  • Youth Engagement

The plans were approved by Boston Borough Council’s Cabinet at a special meeting on Thursday 13thNovember. Now, were submitted to government ahead of the deadline of 28th November.

Claire Foster, Interim Chair of Boston Town Board said: “It is fantastic to see the exciting Pride in Place plans now approved and ready to be submitted to the government.

“We could not have produced these plans without the significant involvement of our community who have shared their thoughts and ideas so generously over the last couple of years.

“We have heard clearly what matters to local people, and what is needed in the town, and we have shaped these plans to reflect what we have been told. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to have their say.

“Through Pride in Place, we have a fantastic opportunity to deliver even more improvements for Boston, and the Board is looking forward to continuing to work with the community to make sure this investment makes a real difference for local people.”

Cllr Mike Gilbert, Deputy Leader of Boston Borough Council and a member of Boston Town Board said: “This is a landmark moment for Boston, agreeing to this ambitious plan that reflects the priorities and aspirations of our residents and that set out a clear vision for the future of our town and borough. As this has a ten year vision, with broad priorities, there will be scope to develop projects to meet the developing needs of the town centre area, and the adjoining neighbourhoods, over the life of the plan.

“The Pride in Place programme provides a real and significant opportunity to deliver meaningful change, and to help make Boston safer, stronger and more attractive for everyone who lives, works or visits here. I’m proud of the collaborative effort that has brought us to this point and am looking forward to seeing these plans become reality.”

Following on from the submission, a response from government is expected in early 2026 before the first tranche of funding is released in April 2026.
