A man has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison at Lincoln Crown Court today, Thursday 23 October, after being convicted of two counts of robbery.
Rumen Pashev, 28, of West Street, Boston pleaded guilty at a hearing on 17 October after he snatched jewellery from two elderly victims in the street.
The two incidents took place within days of each other in Boston. On Monday 1 September, an 82- year-old woman was making her way home from town on Linden Way, when she felt her necklace being pulled off her neck. She turned to see the offender with the chain in his hand before he made off in the direction of Hospital Lane. Thankfully, the lady didn’t receive any injuries but was, understandably, left very shaken by the incident.
On Thursday 4 September another 81-year-old victim on crutches was making her way back from the town centre on John Adams Way, near to the junction with Main Ridge. A man, later identified as Pashev, pushed her to the chest, causing her to fall into railings, which thankfully prevented her from falling into the road. As she fell, Pashev snatched her necklace from her neck. When the lady hit the ground, she felt immediate pain to her wrist; she sustained a broken wrist which has subsequently required surgery.
At the time of writing, sadly neither of the necklaces have been recovered.
The officer in charge of the case, Detective Constable Matt Wharton, said: “We are grateful to all those who shared our appeal. The help of our communities is always appreciated and can provide key information to assist our inquiries. We stand firm in our commitment to protecting and serving our communities.”
