Police are investigating after hate-related graffiti was found near St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary Academy in Boston earlier this month.

The words “Send them home” were spray-painted on a fence close to the school’s entrance on Ashlawn Drive. Lincolnshire Police confirmed the incident is being treated as criminal damage and categorised as a hate crime.

A police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1.44pm on Friday, 3 October reporting vandalism to a fence near St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, in Ashlawn Drive, Boston.

“The words ‘Send them home’ were visible on the fence.

“This is being treated as criminal damage and categorised as a hate crime.

“We take all reports of hate crime seriously and would encourage anyone with information to contact us on 101 quoting Incident 226 of 3 October.”

In a statement, the school described being “shocked and saddened” by the graffiti, adding that it “stood united against racism and discrimination in all forms.”

The spokesperson for St Mary’s said: “As a Catholic primary rooted in values of respect, inclusion and community, hate has no place here. We are grateful for the support shown by parents and residents and remain committed to ensuring our school is a safe and welcoming place for every child.”

Post on our Boston the People NEW Facebook page show first signs of the graffiti taking place around Friday 19th September. The fence, owned by a new independent special school, Conquest, had only been installed 2 days prior to the vandalism.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting incident 226 of 3 October.
