The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, active between 00:00 and 19:00 on Saturday 4 October, as Storm Amy moves across Lincolnshire and much of England and Wales.
Gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected widely, with the potential for stronger gusts of 60 to 65 mph along exposed coastal areas and higher ground. Winds are forecast to strengthen through the morning before gradually easing later in the day.
The warning highlights the likelihood of travel disruption, with delays possible on road, rail, air, and ferry routes. Bus and train services may also be affected, with some journeys taking longer than planned. High-sided vehicles face particular risks on exposed bridges and routes.
Coastal communities are being urged to prepare for large waves and spray, which could impact sea fronts and coastal roads. There is also a risk of short-term power cuts and interruptions to other services.
Residents are advised to prepare in advance by gathering torches, batteries, and mobile phone chargers to cope with potential outages. The public is also urged to take extra care if visiting coastal areas, where large breaking waves could be hazardous.
The Met Office is encouraging people to stay up to date with the latest forecasts, as weather warnings can change quickly.
