Motorists using the A52 near Donington are being advised to plan ahead as emergency repairs get underway next week to tackle serious road surface damage.

The works will take place at Bridge End, west of Donington, from Monday, September 8 through to Thursday, September 11. Crews will be on-site daily between 7.30am and 5pm, but due to the depth of the patching required, a full 24/7 road closure will be in place for the four-day period.

The closure comes after inspections by Lincolnshire County Council revealed significant cracking and uneven surfacing caused by this summer’s prolonged dry weather.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for Highways at LCC, explained: “A significant lack of water within the sub-soils has caused failures and gaps to appear, with the road effectively hitting drought status. This has led to cracks and a loss of ride quality. We’ll be addressing the worst of these issues during the closure.”

Traffic will be diverted via a signed route:

  • A52 West towards Osbournby
  • A15 North to Sleaford
  • A17 East and South
  • A52 West towards Donington (and vice versa).

Karen added: “As these are emergency works, we are operating on very short notice to get crews on-site. Advance warning signs have already been placed to help drivers, and we thank everyone affected for their patience while we bring this stretch of the A52 back up to full strength.”
