Carlton Road Academy is celebrating a highly positive Ofsted inspection following a two-day visit on 10 and 11 June 2025. The report, published on 11 July 2025, praises the school’s welcoming environment, strong leadership, and its “exceptional” provision for pupils’ personal development.

The inspection, conducted under Ofsted’s updated framework, did not provide an overall effectiveness grade but rated the school as follows:

  • Quality of Education: Good
  • Behaviour and Attitudes: Good
  • Personal Development: Outstanding
  • Leadership and Management: Good
  • Early Years Provision: Good

Inspectors commended the academy for fostering a safe, inclusive environment where pupils feel supported and valued. The report highlights the school’s strong focus on reading, its carefully considered curriculum planning, and the positive relationships between staff and pupils.

Pupils were described as “curious and interested in their learning” and showed pride in taking on responsibilities such as participating in the school’s Pupil Parliament. Inspectors also praised Carlton Road Academy’s enrichment opportunities, including a school newspaper club where pupils act as editors and photographers.

The school’s personal development work was highlighted as a particular strength, preparing pupils well for life in modern Britain. Inspectors noted: “We learn that we are all allowed to be who we are and that we should be accepting and kind no matter what,” one pupil said.

Headteacher Clare Coyle expressed her pride in the report’s findings:
“We are incredibly proud of this report, which reflects the dedication and passion of our staff, pupils, and families. The recognition of our outstanding personal development offer is particularly heartening, as we strive to nurture not only academic success but also confident, respectful, and responsible young people.”

Carlton Road Academy, part of Voyage Education Partnership, educates 454 pupils aged 3 to 11. The trust’s CEO Emma Hadley and Board Chair Christopher Penney were also thanked in the report for providing a balance of support and challenge.
