A representative of the 14 Independent councillors who have resigned their allegiance from the Boston Independent Party has published the following statement on behalf of the 14, following the publication of the statement from the Leader of Boston Borough Council, Councillor Anne Dorrian.

“Following the recent statement issued by the Leader of Boston Borough Council, Councillor Anne Dorrian, the 14 out of 17 Councillors who resigned last Friday want to make it clear that there are some issues within that statement they all wish to address.

“Only 5 Councillors were required  by the Borough Council to submit a Motion on Notice to the full Council on Monday 21st July 2025 seeking to remove Councillor Dorrian as Leader of the Council.

“If 14 nominations were allowed all 14 of them would have signed the Motion on Notice.

“The 14 Councillors all resigned for various good reasons, due to issues concerning Cllr Dorrian which were made very clear to the Leader many times from the majority of the Portfolio Holders and Cabinet along with other members of the group, which after several reminders she chose to ignore and never addressed any of the issues before her, over several group and individual meetings.

“Because of her lack of resolving these major issues the 14 members of her group some who had suffered personally, had no alternative but to resign due to their unhappiness, being demoralised, frustration, lack of her concern and interest.

“All 14 had lost faith in her Leadership, Performance, Management, and general attitude towards the majority of the group members.

“Members of the group  were all Independent Councillors working collectively as Boston independent Group but were not allowed to be Independent.

“Today the 14 Councillors are now truly Independent hard working Councillors, who are dedicated public servants with the freedom to act independently in the best interests of their residents within their wards.

“Councillor Dorrian never listened before, so its too late now for her to call a meeting for former Members of the group to  listen again to all the complaints, issues and problems she created for many and never resolved.

“Councillor Dorrian was not always consultative, did not always collaborate and when matters were agreed by the group in some instance she changed the group decision for one of her own without consulting them first causing embarrassment and confusion.

“That style of Leadership and Management is for one type of person only and 14 Councillors can not all be wrong, their resignations says it all, enough is enough.

“The 14 Councillors now look forward to a brighter future as a new progressive Independent group working collectively, collaboratively and consultatively with other Independent Councillors on the Council in the best interests of harmonious working relationships with everyone.”
