Passengers travelling between Boston and Sleaford are facing a second day of rail disruption after a defective track was discovered at Hubberts Bridge today, forcing services on the Nottingham–Skegness line to come to a halt once again.

East Midlands Railway confirmed that urgent repairs are now underway, with Network Rail engineers on site carrying out emergency work. Trains in both directions between Sleaford and Boston have been suspended, with delays of up to 90 minutes expected. The operator is aiming to resume its full advertised timetable by 5:00pm this evening.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said “We’re working closely with Network Rail to fix the track defect at Hubberts Bridge as quickly as possible. We appreciate how frustrating this is, especially following yesterday’s disruption.”

This follows disruption on Thursday when services were brought to a standstill due to a fire at a nearby property on Walnutgarth, Sleaford. That incident also caused significant delays on the same stretch of line.

Today, East Midlands Railway warned that sourcing alternative road transport between Sleaford and Boston is proving difficult. While a small number of replacement buses have been arranged, the operator cannot currently guarantee onward travel for those heading beyond Sleaford.

Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling via nationalrail.co.uk and to allow extra time.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working hard to restore normal service as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson added.
